Kathleen Kennnedysays Lucasfilm is planning the next 10 years of Star Wars Films

Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Lucasfilm is planning the next ten years of Star Wars post-Episode IX. While this shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone it does raise the question, where is Lucasfilm going to go with the stories, and how the standalones and the “Skywalker” trilogies will be treated.

Kennedy has suggested that future movies will progress the stories of Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8. This could mean as part of a main trilogy or potentially as Star Wars Stories.

“We’re sitting down now, we’re talking about the next ten years of Star Wars stories and we’re looking at narratively where that might go; future stories beyond Episode IX, with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB-8, but we’re also looking at working with people that are interested in coming into the Star Wars world and taking us to places that we haven’t been yet, and that’s exciting too because it’s a vast galaxy far, far away,” said Kennedy on the latest episode of The Star Wars Show. “The possibilities are endless.”

What’s interesting is that Kennedy made no mention of Kylo Ren in that list of characters. Whether this is just because she was using them as examples, or because she unwittingly revealed Kylo’s fate is probably a question for a clickbait article.

What we do expect initially is an announcement of three more Star Wars story movies, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and one other. We can also safetly bet on the announcement of another “skywalker” trilogy.

Regardless, given the shear box office value of the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm will be taking great care to ensure their selection of movies balances the need to service the fans and attract a broader general audience.

Until then fans can sit back and prepare for the next in film in the current trilogy…
