People Magazine has written a peice focused on Star Wars newcomer Kelly Marie Tran. Tran plays Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and is the first Asian-American actress to play a major role in the Star Wars film saga.
Tran spoke about how securing a role in Star Wars has impacted her life:
“I just still can’t believe it’s all happening,” she says. “I keep having to remind myself that I’m in a movie. I’ll just go to LA Fitness and go to Ralph’s and go to the grocery store — and nobody knows who I am. Then I come to these events and I’m living this weird Hannah Montana life.”
After being a regular on the small screen for several years, the role in Star Wars is actually Trans first film role. As Stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega will attest, there is no hiding from Star Wars fans, and the expectations on her performance on and off the set will be under intense scrutiny. Tran, however, isn’t phased, instead she is intent on enjoying the opportunity
“I would tell myself just to be present and soak in every single moment,” she says of advice she would have given herself before landing the role. “It’s such a special experience that you just want to really experience every second of it.”
We understand that Rose plays and important part in The Last Jedi, as she is thrown together with Finn, the John Boyega character, to complete an important mission for the Resistance. Lucasfilm has unsubtly been proactive in casting female characters since Disney purchased the company, with great success. I’m looking forward to seeing how Rose, and Tran are received.
